Things that are Good and Things that are Bad for your Back

These are the Things your Back Loves

  • Training to strengthen the muscular system of your back and abdomen (!), such as Pilates, Yoga or Gyrotonic, or special back training courses.
Movement in general, be it walking, hiking, swimming or riding your bike
  • Sitting on mobile chairs without a rigid backrest, which require a frequent change of position
  • Relaxation through, for example, autogenous training or progressive muscle relaxation
  • Massages to loosen up hardened muscles
  • The application of warmth in cases of tension, and cold in cases of inflammation
  • Repose through good, deep sleep
  • A balanced diet with sufficient vitamins, trace elements and "good" fats, which are found in olive oil, rapeseed oil, avocado oil, nuts, seeds and saltwater fish

These Are the Things your Back Doesn't Love at All

  • Long hours of sitting in a chair with a rigid backrest
  • Long hours driving in a car or air travel without interruption and exercise
  • Permanent stress without recreational phases
  • Fast food and crash diets
  • Excess weight
  • Smoking and too much alcohol
  • Sleeping on worn-out, ancient mattresses, in beds that are too short or too narrow, using pillows that are too large and cause the spine to bend.
